National Kidney Foundation of Louisiana Featured in Biz New Orleans

The National Kidney Foundation of Louisiana (NKFL) is revolutionizing the fight to save lives by eliminating preventable kidney disease, accelerating innovation for the dignity of the patient experience, and dismantling structural inequities in kidney care, dialysis, and transplantation.

The National Kidney Foundation of Louisiana provides vital patient and community services, conducts extensive public and professional education, supports local medical research, and advocates for patients through legislative action at the state and federal levels.  Each year, patients, community, and industry leaders from around Louisiana and the country gather in Washington, DC, and Baton Rouge to advocate for equitable access to high-quality healthcare for all kidney patients regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual identity, and socio-economic status.

In Louisiana, there are over 16,000 individuals on dialysis, over 400,000 with chronic kidney disease, and 1,900 waiting for a life-saving kidney transplant.  The NKFL sponsors free community-based kidney health screenings for those at-risk for kidney disease and educates primary care healthcare professionals about chronic kidney disease, specifically focusing on how to stop the progression of the disease in their patient populations. The Foundation actively promotes living and pre-emptive organ donation to help save more lives by encouraging and honoring the selfless gifts of altruistic and living-related kidney donors.
