Louisiana Golfers Place First and Second in Liberty Mutual Insurance Invitational National Finals at Pinehurst Resort

(New Orleans, LA) — The New Orleans team of Chase Dardar, Daniel Forrer, Jason Schwab and Jonathan Wilhite experienced a thrill of a lifetime playing in and placing first out of a field of 50 foursomes in the Liberty Mutual Insurance Invitational Finals at Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, North Carolina. The team competed against more than 200 other amateur golfers from across the country over a grueling four-day tournament at one of the country’s most storied golf courses. An impressive eleven under par on Sunday on Course No. 2 put the team in first place against an impressive array of amateur golfers all competing for the coveted honor of winning or placing in the top 25 teams in the #1 Charity Event in Golf™.

The four New Orleans residents had earned their place in the Finals by winning the Liberty Mutual Insurance Invitational hosted by National Kidney Foundation of Louisiana Monday, August 29, 2011 at English Turn Golf and Country Club.

The Baton Rouge team of Steven Champney, Matt Heinz, Hank Saurage and Dennis Shill finished one stroke behind, with a total of 260, to come in second place.  Steve Debosier, James Peltier, Tom Rathman and Jeff Watson, all from Baton Rouge, placed 11th with a score of 266 and the Lafayette team of Dr. Todd Baquet, Dr. Jim Lipstate, Gus Rantz, III and Gus Rantz, IV finished with a score of 269 in 14th place.  Five additional Louisiana teams finished in the top 25 foursomes who competed for the National Championship.

“It’s a thrill for me to know that golfers who played in our charity tournament placed second in the Finals, the culmination of a year-long schedule of tournaments at some of the best and most-challenging courses around the country,” Torie Kranze, CEO of the National Kidney Foundation of Louisiana said. “We appreciated the tremendous support we’ve received from all of the golfers who played in our tournament last year, and we’re thrilled that our local team was able to do so well at the Finals.”

Pinehurst Resort has been the site of some of professional golf’s most prestigious tournaments and will host the 2014 U.S. Open Championship.

The Liberty Mutual Insurance Invitational is a local amateur charity golf tournament series featuring more than 75 local amateur events across the U.S. The 2011 Liberty Mutual Insurance Invitational tournaments helped raise more than $5.4 million to support local and national charities.

Torie Kranze said it’s not too early for local amateur golfers to start planning to play in one of the 2012 Liberty Mutual Insurance Invitational hosted by The National Kidney Foundation of Louisiana.  Tournaments are scheduled for The Bluffs at St. Francisville, Squire Creek Country Club, English Turn Golf and Country Club and Oakbourne Country Club.

The 18-hole tournament features a scramble format where men and women amateur golfers of all skill levels compete in teams. Members of the winning foursome will receive great prizes from Liberty Mutual Insurance, Nike, Polaroid and Sports Vision Eyewear.

The winning foursome from each event will also earn an invitation to compete against other tournament winners from around the country in the Liberty Mutual Insurance Invitational National Finals, which will return to Pinehurst Resort on March 6 – 10, 2013.

Liberty Mutual Insurance anticipates that the 2012 Liberty Mutual Insurance Invitational charity golf tour will once again raise in excess of $5 million to support national and local charities.

"The genesis of this work came from my recognition that I could better acquaint myself with these patients (people) if I could see them in their own home..I also hoped that including pictures in their own home would depict their humanity rather than their dependency. Although the conception of the project preceded Hurricane Katrina, the event altered the lives of everyone in New Orleans forever and became the focus of many of the stories."
